Dr Simon Moodie studied medicine as an undergraduate at Jesus College, Cambridge University and then at Guys hospital. After 3 years as a junior doctor, he trained as a gastroenterology specialist registrar in the South Thames region, including periods at St George's, St Thomas' and King's teaching hospitals as well as St Helier, Mayday, Epsom and Worthing district hospitals. He spent two and a half years as a clinical research fellow in the department of gastroenterology at St Thomas' hospital, during which time he completed his doctorate (MD) on coeliac disease. Other research interests have included hepatic iron overload while a registrar at St George's hospital (click on the research link to view all publications). He completed further specialist hepatology training with a year as a senior specialist registrar on the King's Liver Unit in 2002-2003. He is experienced in upper GI endoscopy and colonoscopy, including therapeutic endoscopy such as dilatation, stenting, polypectomy and argon plasma photocoagulation. Simon Moodie has a broad clinical training in gastroenterology and hepatology, including expertise in the diagnosis and management of inflammatory bowel disease, colonic polyps, small intestinal disease, abnormal liver function tests, acute and chronic liver disease including viral hepatitis, dysphagia and dyspepsia.
